Mill: Who’s gonna buy Gawker?

A wrap-up of today’s Gawker / Thiel / Hogan drama

What a week. Following an open letter from Gawker owner Nick Denton earlier this morning, addressing news that Peter Thiel had been bankrolling Hulk Hogan’s trial against the New York media company as a philanthropic effort, it now seems Denton might be looking to sell the outlet.

Mark Patricof, a senior banker at Houlihan Lokey described by the New York Times as an expert in “mergers corporate restructuring”, was hired by Gawker yesterday.

Now the New York Post is adding fuel to Gawker fire-sale speculation by noting that Vox Media, Penske, and Spanish-company Univision are also potentially interested in buying the self-described “small New York media organisation.”

Buzzfeed has partially refuted the New York Post’s claims, saying:

Univision is not among the bidders to buy Gawker, sources familiar with the deal told BuzzFeed News.

Vox.com also offered a typically generic, boring opinion on the matter.

So hey, some day soon you might see Kinja on Vox, or Hulk Hogan-run Gawker. Or just the same-ol sand-through-the-hourglass livestreams that Gawker is now capable of producing.

Mesmerising.
