Gadget —The new Fitbit Charge 2 is ugly compared to the regular Charge HR, imo.

It’s 4x larger than its predecessor, has an OLED screen, one button on the side for control, a heart rate sensor, connected GPS support (which uses your phone GPS, and phone battery), a Cardio Fitness score function, and a meditation feature called Relax. It also has “Call, Text & Calendar Alerts” and the usual Fitbit tracking features like Fitbit’s Smart Track feature, which automatically guesses when you’re, say, running or playing sport, as well as a new ‘reminder to move’ feature like we saw on the Apple Watch. It tracks steps, distance traveled, calories burned, as well as your sleep.

The Charge 2 also has interchangeable bands and up to 5 days of battery life.

Getting back to the general look of the thing, I think the charm of the original Charge was the smaller size. I don’t want everyone to be able to see how many steps I’ve taken on this huge screen, and the Charge had some inherent form of privacy through its size. The new Charge also isn’t “swim-proof”, so swimming fans might want to pick up the smaller, cooler Flex 2.

Gadget — I loved the simplicity of the original Fitbit Flex, so I’m glad the company has brought the fitness tracker…
